My name is Cindi Bedor and I specialise in trauma counselling for the areas of Bristol, Bath and Weston-super-Mare, working with people who have experienced extremely stressful and traumatic events.
Many people I have worked with have felt confused by these feelings, often worrying that they were 'going crazy' because they could neither understand what was happening to them, nor could they make the symptoms stop happening. Others are left with anxiety, depression, and less resilience to stress.
I hope that this website will help you better understand your trauma reaction, and to find ways to have more control in your life. On the next few pages I will explain what happens when we are confronted with a highly threatening event, and what you can do to help yourself begin to recover.
In the meantime, it may help to remember that you are having a very normal reaction to the abnormal events that happened to you.
The trauma counselling and therapy I offer is based upon current best practice guidelines for treating trauma responses and supporting natural healing processes. I use a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychotherapy, and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), and I will always work with you at a pace you feel safe with.
You may not feel ready at this point to undertake trauma therapy, and may find it helpful just to read the different pages and try out some of the ideas offered. You will know if and when the time is right to start working with a therapist.
